Family Mediation
Peter Webster our Principal is qualified as a family mediator, working with couples in the process of separation and divorce.
He can offer mediation sessions or information and assessment meetings at:
- All Saints Community Centre, 105 New Cross Road, London SE14 5DJ, or
- 218 Strand, 3rd Floor, London WC2R 1AT
Peter can act as sole mediator, and also co-mediates with Dorothea Gartland of Four Paper Buildings, who as an experienced family law barrister is also keen to help couples reach a settlement before they fight all the way to the doors of the court.
Peter worked in the family department of a City of London private client firm earlier in his career. He was involved in divorce, domestic violence, financial and children issues, between couples varying from modest to highly affluent means. Taking a case to a final ancillary relief hearing impressed upon him the need to take every opportunity to settle matters amicably at an early stage where possible.
Peter is a member of the Family Mediators Association. He is familiar with the approach to mediation that is standard in the family field, and can undertake mediations following that model. He can equally tailor the mediation process to suit the requirements of a particular situation, for example, where the parties wish their advisors to participate directly in the mediation. He is supervised by a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC), Ruth Smallacombe at Family Law in Partnership (FLIP) in Covent Garden. Peter is also trained to undertake Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs).
Peter comes to family mediation with a strong commercial background that enhances his ability to assist couples with significant financial and/or business issues. His clients have appreciated his ability to understand and explain complicated issues, and resolve them efficiently without the need for a full and costly legal process. Peter is well able to manage high conflict in divorce. He is no stranger to high-conflict situations, having run a conciliation project in Rwanda for three years after the genocide there in 1994. He has also mediated numerous neighbourhood noise disputes in Southwark since training with Southwark Mediation in 1998. He is an accredited commercial mediator, and has mediated partnership and boundary disputes as well as his own particular specialism of construction and engineering disputes.
